Residential Efficiency Rebate Programs
Residential High-Efficiency Heating Equipment Rebate Program
Heating equipment is typically the largest energy user in the home. If a natural gas furnace or boiler is more than 20 years old, it is probably running very inefficiently
compared to today’s models. One way to help offset the rising cost of energy and significantly reduce heating costs is to replace old furnace or boiler with new
high-efficiency heating equipment. In fact, a new furnace or boiler can save up to 30% of your heating energy use.
Rebates up to $1000 are available for heating equipment that meets or exceeds the following Annual Fuel Usage (AFUE1) ratings:
| $25 rebate |
Energy Star Labeled Natural Gas Programmable Thermostat. There is a two rebate limit per account, and
the rebate cannot exceed the purchase price of the thermostat. |
| $50 rebate |
Energy-Star Rated Storage Water Heater .62 EF2 |
| $100 rebate |
Warm Air Furnaces ≥ 92% AFUE rating |
| $200 rebate |
Steam Boilers ≥ 82% AFUE rating |
| $300 rebate |
High Efficiency Indirect Water Heater - Attached to a natural gas boiler
(30 to 70 gallon tank size) |
| $300 rebate |
High Efficiency on-Demand, Tankless Water Heater - .82 EF or greater with Eectronic Ignition |
| $400 rebate |
Warm Air Furnaces ≥ 92% AFUE rating equipped with Electronic Commutated Motor (ECM) or equivalent advanced furnace fan system |
| $500 rebate |
Forced Hot Water Boilers ≥ 85% AFUE rating |
| $1000 rebate |
Forced Hot Water Boilers ≥ 90% AFUE rating |
| $1300 rebate |
Combined High Efficiency Boiler and water Heating Unit - Minimum AFUE Rating of 90% with hot water storage of 2 gallons or less |
*Rebates restricted to residential customers of participating GasNetworks utilities.
COOL SMART
Rebates for ENERGY STAR Qualified Equipment
The 2009 federal stimulus package (The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) has created an expanded residential energy tax credit for 2009 and 2010. The tax credit includes a maximum of up to $1500 for investments in home energy efficiency. Central air conditioning systems with a minimum of SEER3 16 and EER4 13 qualify for this tax credit. Consumers should note; however, that some air conditioning manufacturers may not yet have models that meet this requirement or that are suitable for the cooling needs of all homes. See ENERGY STAR’s web page for more information.

Right Sizing Incentive
COOL SMART will provide an incentive of $250 per half ton of downsizing to the contractor and $250 per half ton of downsizing to the customer for replacement systems. The system must be sized to match ASHRAF, Manual J sizing – or sized to match the measured system air flow of the existing duct work. Pre-approval is needed when the new system to be installed is 3 tons or greater.
1AFUE – Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency
2EF – Energy Factor
3SEER – Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio
4EER – Energy Efficiency Ratio
